Blood Red

11 February 2026

I saw a shocking ne’er seen bird today

Alighting on a branch above a creek

And while I love a feathered thing in gray

This scarlet faerie with its ink black beak

Had shimmer wings and iridescent feet

And sang a finchlike song above the fray

It seemed unbothered by the noonday heat

Its weightless, crimson joy that seemed to say:

“I am the heart that levitates with bliss

“While beating still within a bursting chest

“I am the agile soul that leaps when kissed

“I am the bloodred bruise at last arrest.”

So kiss me here in the enchanted place

And thrill me now, until our last embrace.
